Description : The initiative was created to allow children hosted in Nairobi orphanages to live what for them is considered a unique experience and which is absolutely normal and un-noticed routine for all of us: a day in a commercial centre. Starting with a mouth-watering breakfast at a fashion bar, the day continues with a dedicated movie at one of the top cinema, a snack in a fast food restaurant and an afternoon at the playground. The day ends with the purchase of a pair of new shoes. But above all, children experience to be at the centre of the attention, to be considered as individual and to have the right of choice: actually to be a normal and lucky child, even though for one day only.
Each initiative aims at groups of 30 / 35 children at a time, aged between 4 and 14 years, as reward of drawing/painting or composition contests. The winning school or class is also rewarded with education material (books, stationery, etc.) or equipment (computers, printers, etc.). Teachers informed us that the majority of children who were so lucky to participate to these activities improved in their studies results. Moreover, enlarged families or tutors showed greater involvement in the scholastic life of their assisted children.

Descrizione : L’iniziativa è nata per permettere ai bambini ospitati negli orfanotrofi di Nairobi di vivere esperienze per loro uniche, ma assolutamente normali per tutti noi. Iniziando con una succulenta prima colazione in un bar alla moda, la giornata continua con la proiezione di un film in uno dei più eleganti cinema di Nairobi, un pranzo in un fast food e un pomeriggio nella sala giochi. La giornata termina con l’acquisto (e soprattutto la scelta) di un paio di scarpe nuove e “su misura”. Grazie a queste iniziative, almeno per un giorno gli orfani diventano bambini normali e fortunati, al centro dell’attenzione e con pieno diritto di scegliere liberamente quello che desiderano.
Ogni giornata è diretta di volta in volta a gruppi di 30 / 35 bambini/e in età tra i 4 e i 14 anni, “premiati” per i loro disegni, dipinti o per i temi svolti. Al tempo stesso le loro scuole ricevono materiale e attrezzature didattiche (libri, cancelleria, computer ecc).
Le insegnanti ci hanno segnalato che la maggior parte degli alunni che hanno avuto la fortuna di partecipare a questa iniziativa ha poi ottenuto un miglioramento negli studi ed un maggior coinvolgimento delle proprie famiglie o tutori nella vita scolastica.
