Summary :
“Journeys and Solidarity" is an experience which allows participants to visit, meet and experience many aspects that,
all together, combine to form an extremely dynamic and complex reality such as the one of Kenya. “Journeys and Solidarity"
does not simply end with hundreds of photos to show to friends and relatives back home: in your luggage - on the return flight -
you’ll have full of thoughts, enthusiasm, experiences, feelings, ideas and proposals. Kenya is a country highly contentious
and complex, and this trip aims at showing as many aspects as possible of it, ranging from devastated suburbs and the struggle
to survive of its
inhabitants to magnificent breathtaking natural parks and luxurious sandy beaches.
Sommario:
il “Viaggio Solidale” rappresenta un’esperienza che permette ai partecipanti di visitare, confrontarsi e
sperimentare i molteplici aspetti di un Paese che, tutti insieme, concorrono a formare una realtà estremamente
dinamica e complessa come quella keniota. Il “Viaggio Solidale” non si conclude semplicemente con centinaia di
foto da mostrare ad amici e parenti una volta tornati a casa ma con un nuovo bagaglio sul volo di ritorno,
un bagaglio colmo di riflessioni, entusiasmo, esperienze, sensazioni, idee e proposte. Il Kenya è un Paese
estremamente articolato e contradditorio: questo viaggio ha mirato a mostrarne il maggior numero possibile di
aspetti che vanno dalle devastate periferie urbane e la lotta per la sopravvivenza dei suoi
abitanti alla magnificenza mozzafiato dei parchi naturali e le lussureggianti spiagge sabbiose.

The first week was devoted to the hardest and most bitter Kenyan “shadows”, yet equally compelling aspects.
Unfortunately, extreme poverty and deprivation and suffering are elements that you cannot overlook if you
really want to get a complete picture of the Kenyan reality. However, the key to reading is a proposal one:
with strong commitment and full of goodwill it is possible to provide concrete help to this large slice of
disadvantaged population and also to denounce the existence of such a dramatic situation. Hosted at the Shalom House,
which is a successful solidarity village per se,
the group went through visits and events organized by associations and local realities.
However, showing this side only would be unfair, and it would take away the dignity of a great Country like
Kenya as well. For this reason, “Journeys and Solidarity” completed its visit with a week dedicated to the
natural beauty of the Country. Based in Malindi, participants were able to enjoy
the softer side of the Kenyan reality: sea, sun, natural parks, wild animals, hospitality and delicious food.

La prima settimana è stata dedicata agli aspetti più duri e amari, ma altrettanto imprescindibili.
La povertà, l’indigenza e la sofferenza, sfortunatamente, sono elementi che non si possono tralasciare
se si vuole ottenere una visione completa della realtà kenyana. La chiave di lettura, però, è sempre una
chiave propositiva: far visitare progetti in atto per dimostrare che con l’impegno e la buona volontà è possibile
fornire un aiuto concreto a questa larga fetta di popolazione ed insieme denunciare l’esistenza stessa di situazioni
tanto drammatiche. Questo proposito si è concretizzato tramite visiteed eventi organizzati con associazioni o realtà locali.
Mostrare solo questo lato del Kenya sarebbe scorretto e toglierebbe dignità a questo meraviglioso Paese.
Per questa ragione i “Viaggi Solidali” sono stati completati con una settimana dedicata alle bellezze naturali del Paese.
Con base a Malindi, i partecipanti hanno potuto sperimentare il lato più dolce della realtà keniota: mare, sole, parchi nazionali,
animali selvatici, ospitalita’ e buon cibo.
Costs : The international travel to Nairobi and entry visa were
provided by the participants themselves. In addition, the first week cost came around 500 €, while the
second one roughly 1,000 € (full comprehensive, excluding only beverage and some dinners).
Costi: Il biglietto aereo fino a Nairobi ed il visto d’entrata
sono stati pagati direttamente dai partecipanti. In aggiunta, i costi della prima settimana si aggirano intorno ai 500 €,
mentre quelli della seconda sui 1.000 € (tutto compreso, escluse le bevande e qualche cena).
